Salalah is the capital city of southern Oman’s Dhofar province. It’s known for its banana plantations, Arabian Sea beaches and waters teeming with sea life. The Khareef, an annual monsoon, transforms the desert terrain into a lush, green landscape and creates seasonal waterfalls.
The Frankincense Land Museum, part of the Al Baleed Archaeological Site, recounts the city’s maritime history and role in the spice trade. Arrive Salalah by coach- check in- breakfast at hotel and relax- by noon transfer restaurant for lunch – Ain Razat stream for a picnic and swim in the freshwater stream- drive through Salalah tropical garden area- evening at the Darr Ezz Beach and creek area- dinner and overnight at hotel. Ain Razat (water spring) is one of the must see destinations in Salalah. It is a beautiful area and not far from the city (about 20 Kms from Salalah city) Salalah is a slice of ecological miracle. Coconut trees on white sand beaches provide respite from the punishing heat, while tropical fruits grow in the otherwise arid region.
But you’ll really want to be there during the wildly popular khareef season starting July, when monsoon rain visits the desert-town to reveal misty emerald valleys, flowing wadis, and seasonal waterfalls — it’s truly a little oasis in the midst of Arabian desert
Breakfast at hotel – drive towards Mirbat -visit Sumhuram Archaeological museum and Khor Rohri creek – drive to Taqah village, visit the Fortress offering bird’s eye view over the village- Visit Wadi Darabat drive, Lunch.
Afternoon Visit to Mountain Zamhan – shopping at Haffa/ Al Qouf Souq- barbeque dinner and overnight stay at hotel/ resort. Previously a fortified town, Khor Rori, relevant to the frankincense trade, the place is now known as the Sumhuram archaeological park.
Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this place is an active archaeological park and museum. Here, you will witness archeologists conducting excavations to discover ancient ruins. Moreover, the exotic location of the park overlooks the gorgeous Khor Rori creek. Taqah is a province and coastal town in the Dhofar governorate, in southwestern Oman. Wadi Darbat is an absolute jewel of a day trip if you’re spending time in Salalah, Oman. With year-round water, bright blue pools, massive waterfalls, epic wild camping spots and loads of camels, this wadi is our favourite.
